Katy, TX, (June 17, 2013) – The Chris Saiz Point the Way Foundation announces the award of eight scholarships to local students. The foundation was established two years ago in honor of Chris Saiz, a Cinco Ranch High School athlete who tragically passed away in 2011 from a car accident.
“We are pleased to award eight scholarships this year to young men and women who dream of continuing their education,” says Michael Saiz, father of the foundation’s namesake. Chosen among many outstanding applicants, the recipients were awarded based on high integrity, superior work ethic, community involvement and big dreams. “These are qualities that Chris embodied, and that we see in these students,” Saiz adds, noting that his family and the foundation’s board of directors are grateful for the enormous show of generosity and support from businesses, individuals, friends, and countless volunteers. Individual scholarships ranged up to $3,500. Recipients and their colleges of choice are:
Cinco Ranch High School
Ana Gutierrez (Texas A&M), Katelyn Jordan (Baylor University), Kevin Colpoys (Texas A&M), Cayla Vanderweide (Oklahoma University)
Katy High School
Amy Vandenberg (University of Southern California)
